The focus of the Pillar this year has been related to funding constraints and strategic developments at all levels of government. Rate capping impacts were limited in this first year of a new regime. The State Government has recently launched the Creative Victoria Strategy and this will be discussed further at the June meeting. Some Federal funding has been reinstated but it is limited and the impacts are being felt by the smaller grassroots companies.
The key pillar project continues to be the Geelong Future Cities and we have been pleased to see some progress. Opportunities to work collaboratively with other Pillars is being explored. Involvement in the arts and culture supports health and well-being. We have received a proposal regarding support for documenting local history and will be actively identifying ways we can financially support such projects with sponsorship.
Lastly the Pillar farewelled Geelong Gallery Director Geoffrey Edwards. We wish him well in his retirement and welcome involvement of the new Director Jason Smith.
