2016 Draft operating plan 2016-2017
The 2015 Draft operating plan has been developed and a meeting held with DHHS occurred on 7 March 2016. The Operating plan is now being implemented.
Preventing and Addressing Violence Against Women and Children Strategy in the G21 Region
The Preventing Violence Against Women and Children Strategic Plan 2015-2020 is being facilitated through a partnership between the City of Greater Geelong, Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West, G21 – Geelong Region Alliance and the Barwon Area Integrated Family Violence Committee. These organisations formed a Project Planning Executive Group to oversee the development of a five- year Strategic Plan and a 2-year Action Plan. The Committee has now engaged a Consultant to develop a Governance framework which will inform and advise on the best way to implement the Plan. It is envisaged a launch of the Plan will take place in the first half of 2016 and sessions with various agencies across the sectors will take place to assist in the implementation of the Plan.
G21 Affordable Housing Taskforce
The Taskforce has completed the position paper – “Addressing Disadvantage through Affordable Social Housing”. The paper will be launched by the Hon, Minister Martin Foley, Minister for Housing, Disability and Ageing, Mental Health, Equality and Creative Industries at a forum called Disability Housing Forum on Wednesday 11 May 2016.
G21 and Deakin University Health Literacy Forum
“You and Your Health” – Finding Out and Making Decisions Workshops will be held in June and July. These targeted workshops facilitated by Dr Sophie Hill of La Trobe University will help understand the consumer experience (particularly those with a disability) and their access to health services. A number of key agencies are supporting these workshops including: NDIS, GMHBA, Barwon Health, Karingal and Gateways.
G21 Physical Activity Strategy
This strategy is now finalised and an implementation plan is being developed. G21 HWB will have a trade display at the upcoming PLA (Parks and Leisure Australia) conference in May 2016.
A Regional Approach to Municipal Health and Wellbeing Planning
Four meetings have been held with local government representatives regarding the desire to have a collaborative approach to Regional Health and Wellbeing Planning in 2017. These discussions will continue over the course of the next few months. A reporting framework to assess the key deliverables from the current and active Region Health and Wellbeing Plan is underway with a report back to key agencies in late May 2016.
The results from the DHHS Service Coordination survey has been distributed to all key agencies involved. Officers are now spending time unpacking the key items and working through the next steps of service coordination.
Responsible Gambling and Harm Prevention
An application in collaboration with the major Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies has been submitted to the Foundation for Responsible Gambling. This project will focus on harm prevention, specifically targeted to Aboriginal communities in the Greater Geelong region.
HWB Partner Forum
Inclusive Practice: An Equal Experience for All is the theme for the upcoming HWB Partner Forum to be held on 26 May. Planning is well advanced and the key note speaker is Rowena Allen – Victoria’s first Gender & Sexuality Commissioner.
