The number of Geelong young people seeking mental support is double the national average, with headspace providing more than 6000 occasions of service in just 12 months.
To help improve the mental health of young people in the G21 region, a number of strategies are being implemented to try and prevent loneliness, social isolation and lack of feeling connected.
This includes an innovative digital summit for young people, by young people across the Geelong region to look at ways of breaking down the barriers that cause loneliness, social isolation and lack of connectedness.
The ‘Local and Vocal’ summit will include expert speakers, break-out discussions and the opportunity to pitch creative ideas to be implemented within the Geelong regional community.
The direction and outcomes of the “Local and Vocal” summit will be largely determined by young people, for young people.
