DISTINCTIVE AREAS & LANDSCAPES PROJECT

PROJECT / Transport & Planning Pillar

As popular places to live and visit, the Bellarine Peninsula and Surf Coast are under significant pressure from urban development as well as the growing threat of climate change risks.

In 2019 the state government declared them both a ‘distinctive area and landscape.’ providing protection for the environment, landscapes and lifestyle of the area.

The final Statement of Planning Policy (SPP), protecting settlement boundaries for both areas were adopted in 2022.
