Barwon South West Climate Alliance

PROJECT / Sustainability Pillar

At the completion of the Climate Resilient Communities Project in 2017, the Barwon South West (BSW) Local Government partners expressed interest in continuing to work together and establish a Greenhouse Alliance.

A Greenhouse Alliance for the Barwon South West will support knowledge sharing, coordinate advocacy and deliver a range of mutually beneficial and collaborative climate change adaptation and mitigation projects across the region.

Establishing the alliance will bring the Barwon South West region in line with other Victorian Greenhouse Alliances, with some having been established for over a decade.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning have provided initial funding to establish the Alliance. This funding provides for the employment of an Alliance Establishment Officer and delivery of a Barwon South West Community Health and Services Forum.

The Alliance Establishment Officer will be responsible for the formation and implementation of a formal climate alliance between the Local Governments of the Barwon South West region, Water Authorities, CMAs and other relevant organisations.
