Under the Super Home Buyer scheme, first home buyers would be able to use up to 40 per cent of their super, up to $50,000, to put towards buying a home.
The scheme would begin on July 1, 2023, for first home buyers who must have saved another five per cent of their deposit separately.
The buyer must also live in the home for at least 12 months, but there are no age, property or income thresholds.
Under the expanded “Home Guarantee Scheme”, the Government will make available:
- 35,000 guarantees each year, up from the current 10,000, from 1 July 2022 under the First Home Guarantee, to support eligible first homebuyers to purchase a new or existing home with a deposit as low as five per cent;
- 10,000 guarantees each year from 1 October 2022 to 30 June 2025 under a new Regional Home Guarantee, to support eligible homebuyers, including non-first home buyers and permanent residents, to purchase or construct a new home in regional areas, subject to the passage of enabling legislation; and
- 5,000 guarantees each year from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2025 to expand the Family Home Guarantee announced in last year’s budget.

“Help to Buy” will be open to 10,000 Australians each financial year.
Eligible home buyers will need a minimum deposit of 2 per cent, with an equity contribution from a Labor governement of up to a maximum of 40 per cent of the purchase price of a new home and up to a maximum of 30 per cent of the purchase price for an existing home.
Capped at $850,000 for regional centres and $550,000 for regional locations.
“Regional First Home Buyer Support Scheme” will help 10,000 regional first home buyers annually by removing the need to pay Lenders Mortgage Insurance with a deposit of up to five per cent.
A Labor Government would guarantee up to 15 per cent of the value of properties purchased.
The scheme – reserved for Australians that have lived in that region for more than a year – will be capped at $700,000 for Geelong and $500,000 for regional areas. |
